Vladimir Tretchikoff's iconic painting "Chinese Girl," said to be one of the most reproduced in the world, is coming home to South Africa after more than half a century in a private Chicago collection, Bonhams auction house announced Thursday after a record sale.

The picture of the beauty with a green-hued skin, ruby-red lips and luscious black hair, which features on mugs, T-shirts, posters and wallpaper, sold Wednesday 982,050 British pounds (nearly $1.5 million) — double the expected price and a record for Tretchikoff or any South African artist, according to Giles Peppiatt, director of South African art at Bonhams.

Yityish Aynaw, a former Israeli army officer, has become the first Ethiopian-born Israeli to win the Miss Israel pageant.

A panel of judges awarded the title to Aynaw, a 21-year-old model who came to Israel about a decade ago, at the International Convention Center Haifa on Wednesday.

Daniel Day-Lewis has made Oscars history by becoming the first man to win the best actor prize three times.

The British-born star, who had been the runaway favourite, was rewarded for his role in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln.

Nelson Mandela's granddaughters are set to star in a reality television programme called Being Mandela.

Swati Dlamini and Zaziwe Dlamini-Manaway say they have the former South African president's blessing.

"Afrocentricity," curated by Jersey City's own Darin DeField, will celebrate African-American contemporary art at the Roosevelt Island Visual Art Association (RIVAA) Gallery. The show aims to shine light on the theory of African epistemological relevance to the African Diaspora as well as look at how ideas, materials, craft, color and patterns from traditional African art can also be found in African-American art.

The fourth annual Johannesburg exhibit showcases work that provokes debate on many of Africa's social issues.
